BALTIMORE, MD – The Maryland Zoo will add two new animal experiences this October, bringing Zoo guests closer to the Southern white rhino and the North American river otter. “Our teams have been developing new experiences this year to fit the change of seasons and we are excited to offer two new experiences that will run throughout the fall and winter,” said Kirby Fowler, president and CEO of the Zoo. “Being able to bring guests closer to the animals has been a focus of ours this year. The recent renovations to the otter habitat give us the opportunity to really highlight this native species in a new way and being close to a 2,000 pound rhinoceros is an experience no one will ever forget!”
Join the Maryland Wilderness Animal Care Team to learn about the North American river otters that reside at the Zoo. During this Zoo Educator-guided experience, you will watch one of the Animal Care Team conduct a training session with an otter. Why does the Zoo staff train the otters? Join us to find out during this 30-minute experience for up to six people.
During the Rhino Training experience, guests will observe how the Animal Care Team and the rhinos interact on a daily basis. Guests will learn all about rhinos on this guided experience with a Zoo Educator and watch one of the Animal Care Team conduct a training session with a member of the crash. This is a 30-minute experience for up to six people.
Tickets for these and other experiences range from $39 to $49 and do not include general Zoo admission.* Experiences are intended for ages 5 and up. Children ages 5 to 11 must be accompanied by a ticketed adult. Masks are required regardless of vaccination status and closed-toe shoes are highly recommended for each experience.
*Zoo admission tickets are required for each Zoo Experience attendee and must be purchased separately for non-Zoo members. If you are not a Zoo member, you must purchase admission tickets in advance. If you are a Zoo Member, please make a separate online reservation for your visit.
