Stand Tall For a Good Cause

Shh…We’ve got a BIG secret to tell. We recently became home to a 3-year-old female reticulated giraffe from another AZA accredited facility!

As is customary with the addition of all animals who aren’t born on campus, she is currently going through a quarantine period. During this time, operations vary from the norm.

Our incredible veterinarians conduct frequent physical assessments and are closely monitoring her behavior and health. The giraffe keepers have also divided into separate teams in order to manage the animals safely. Those caring for the new female will trade in their typical uniform for scrubs, gloves, and different footwear before entering the restricted space. Trash is even bagged and disposed of separately!

Additionally, our team observes overnight footage to ensure the giraffe’s continued acclimation, even after hours.

Naming Contest

As you can imagine, caring for an additional giraffe is a costly endeavor. This holiday season, please stand tall for a good cause and help us support the care of the newest member of our herd! Donations of $100 will be entered in for a chance to name the new giraffe. Gifts of multiple hundreds will increase entries with a 1:1 ratio, meaning $200=two entries, $300= three entries, etc.

To sweeten the deal even further, our incredible Board of Trustees has pledged to match the first $6,600 of donations, instantly doubling your impact! So please, make a donation today and spread the word about this important campaign. Your gift truly goes a long way in supporting our overall operating costs and conservation work both locally and abroad. Thank you for sticking your neck out and supporting the Zoo this season!

Donate & Enter to Win

If your gift qualifies you for the giraffe naming contest, here’s how it works: the winning donor will be selected at random on December 11, 2024. The winner will be contacted and invited to the Zoo for an exclusive behind-the-scenes tour. During this visit, the winner will propose two potential names for the giraffe. The animal care team will choose the preferred name in collaboration with the winner, ensuring mutual agreement before the giraffe’s name is finalized!

Can I Do More?

Making a gift is the most important contribution you can make, but there are other ways to help too…spread the word! Everyone loves giraffes, so tell your friends about the conservation work the Zoo is doing and encourage them to give today. One easy way to do this is by sharing the Zoo’s Facebook fundraiser.
